About Brooklie
I have a BA in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, a JD from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, and a MA in the CACREP-accredited Professional Counseling Program at Texas State University in San Marcos. I always dreamed of being a professional helper of some sort. I began my career in the legal and nonprofit fields, but after volunteering as a guardian ad-litem with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for four years, I knew I wanted to begin helping people in a more nurturing and empowering way. During and after obtaining my master’s degree, I worked with adolescents and their parents in an Austin middle school. I then joined a local private practice group where I worked extensively with adolescents, adults and families. I founded Clarksville Counseling in Austin, Texas in 2021.
In my therapeutic approach, I draw on person-centered theory, Adlerian theory, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness and strength-based therapy. I am professionally and personally inspired by the work of Dr. Kristin Neff in Self-Compassion, Brene Brown in shame and vulnerability, and Dr. Dan Siegel in interpersonal neurobiology and I often incorporate their research in my clinical approach. I am a certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator and I see through that lens in working with teens and parents -- everyone needs to feel loved and significant to thrive. I feel so fortunate to have found my professional identity in mental health counseling and I love what I do!
In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors and spending time with my husband + kiddos, family, friends and golden retriever in my hometown of Austin. I love eating delicious food on patios, traveling, reading, running, yoga and being on the water in every way!
